Robust sensor for measuring surface finish
The model 6212 Surface Roughness Gage is Lasercheck's most versatile and rugged sensor head. The housing contains all electronics, optics and mechanical mounts to allow measurements on surfaces smoother than 0.0125 to 2 microns (1 to 80 microinches). The head is 2.5 mm (0.1 in.) away the surface to be measured by an operator manually positioning or through robotic positioners in an automated system. Convenient tapped and drilled holes are provided on the head to aid in automation mounting. Because the sensor is positioned away from the surface and not in contact, the model 6212 head is capable of measuring surfaces in motion under the head – at ANY SPEED! This capability makes a model 6212 based Lasercheck system capable of measuring surfaces right in the manufacturing process in real time with no interruption to manufacturing.
Positioning / alignment fixtures are available to ensure repeatable positioning on a surface for manual measurement operations. The rugged construction makes this surface measurement head almost indestructible. It far exceeds durability of any surface measurement instrument worldwide. Model 6212 Lasercheck heads survive years of rugged operation in harsh manufacturing environments without ever requiring service, calibration or mainitenance. They just keep working uninterrupted saving users thousands of dollars of annual maintenance fees plus untold costs in down time.
A Class II visible laser beam is directed to the surface. The distribution of reflected and scattered laser radiation from the surface is measured by the integrated bank of sensors inside the head. Precise values form all sensors are ported to Lasercheck electronics for digitzing, and software analysis to convert surface signals to precise Ra roughness values all in a fraction of a second.
